Screenplay writing is the most honest form of illustrating the core of human life. Characters, their journey of achieving dreams, the ups and downs, hope and humiliation, loss of life and the ultimate success or failure. This may sound like a structure but it happens with every individual.

Like the life of an individual is not structured, how could be the screenplay? It can’t have a fixed formula. Every story is different, every character is different. All though there is a technique to weave screenplay but I defer to agree with it. Whether it is a Three Act structure or Four Actor Structure. Structure has nothing to do with the storytelling.

Story is what happens to the character, your protagonist. Every character has a different set of supporting characters, different environments and different circumstances of their life.

Nowadays plots are not cinematic but are inspired from real life incidents and every plot is unique so should be the screenplay.

Bollywood has given best structured movies like Tanu Weds Manu, Company, Shiva, Satya to name a few but the structure of all these movies was different. All the mentioned films followed the journey of the Character (Protagonist). But The Gangs of Wasseypur was different and not structured. The storytelling was so organic that within the five minutes of the beginning of the movie, it takes us to the city called Wasseypur where we remain till the end of the movie. We move with people and moved by them. Our goals takes us forward. Innovations changes us. We keep moving and push ourself when we can’t move on.

The plot gives us chance to find our own identity. It’s in our culture but influenced by others. We remember where we come from but keep our wings open to fly everywhere, even to outer space. We also have traits, critical thinkers. Every problem comes along with solution. We remain fashionable. Sometimes we set trends. We are promoters of change. Our eyes are wide open to seek and celebrate beauty even when it’s flawed. Life is teacher and it teach us lesson, we are desperate to learn from it. Our flaws? We are honest in disagreement, adaptable in times of need, rebels at heart, dreamers. Our heads are in the clouds while we walk firmly on the ground.

Storytelling is a practice. We see magic in its art, a craft. Writing is rewriting life. From darkness to light, Light to darkness. A cycle. Many stories telling one story. The climax. Conflict is story. We are peaceful by nature but bring out the big guns when needed. Universal languages we know how to speak. Every hero deserves a journey, even the anti-hero. Every journey is a lesson. A transformation. The character’s arc. Every story needs a resolution. The end. Open your eyes.
