Once Upon a Time in Bollywood - A Nepotism Talk
The death of Sushant Singh Rajput came as a huge shock to the Bollywood. He will be remembered for his roles which he has done in such a short span of time. The death of Sushant Singh Rajput, has brought back the famously argued issue of Nepotism in Bollywood. Does it exist? it does. But, who is responsible for the death and snatching away seven films from him, banning him by the leading production houses? if that was the case, then, how come other outsiders like Kangna Ranot, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irrfan Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and many more other actors, survived in this industry for so long?
Even if Sushant was banned by the production houses, he had many other opportunities to explore. Giving up on life was not the ultimate solution. Competition is there in every business. And if you are in a competitive business, you need to be mentally strong to fight the challenges.
Actors are traded likes a commodity now days. New Directors often face a question like "आपके पास एक्टर है क्या" (Do you have actors consent?) means, you write very good film, you are talented enough to direct but if you don't have renowned actor on board, you are worthless. So if the door of Bollywood was closed for him, there were many other options. I have heard that people are saying he was finding it low to his stature to do web series. I am not sure about it, but had it been the case, there was an option of independent cinema. He was not a new comer. He had a decent portfolio in his kitty. But he gave up and we have lost a very good talented actor. Netflix in The United States is giving tough competition to the Hollywood with its storytelling and hiring renowed actors on board.
Movie making involves huge cost. It is a business. Why would any financier want to invest on a new talent? Does new actors give return guarantee to them? I agree, cinema is art but art is also involved with commerce. Unless there is a spice to your product, no one would like to distribute it. It is very difficult to explain what and how difficult film making process is. It is most laborious job in the world. So it becomes the right of the producer/financier to cast those who can bring profit on desk. It does not mean that only those are going to get chance who can bring profit. No, news comers are also welcome but they need to prove their worth like Karthik Aryan, Ayushman Khurana and Raj Kumar Rao has done. Studio's will back you like they did with these actors. But the question every aspiring actor to ask to themselves is Am I really a good Actor?
Discrimination on any basis, whatsoever it may be, is a thing of past. We are in a new era. You prove your worth and you are a star. You need to be mentally tough to fight the competion. Suicide is the ultimate end, but if you superseeds it, it could be a new begining as well.
