Movie Review

Making movie is a craft, watching movie is an art but reading movie is a skill. Every hit or flop movie teaches you; to be a better filmmaker.

Gulabo Sitabo

When you stretch the plot, you make films like Gulabo Sitabo. This film has a plot of short film, which has been stretched to 2 hours. Nevertheless, watching Mr. Amitabh Bachchan is always a treat.

The Plot: There is nothing extraordinary about it, we have heard it many times. Now the time has come to explore our literature and search for good subjects. It is a Juhi Chaturvedi, written film, and apart from Vicky Donor, other movies she has written have this issue. But kudos to the collaboration between the writer-director that the movie keeps you entertained. But the conference room writing takes over the basic plot and there it fails. The lead characters are single dimensional, which makes them extremely boring. We can tolerate them till the end of the first act, but later on...it becomes monotonous.

Direction: Capturing the right frame is a very essential part of filmmaking. Your lenses are not merely an instrument which is attached to your camera, it has a purpose and when you have framing issues, you end the mood of the scene.

This is a small town story, it is not Zero Dark Thirty to shake the camera unnecessarily. Sorry but it doesn't sync with the scene. This has been repeated many times. Overall, direction is average. And being a Sujit’s fan. We expect more from him.

Cinematography: There is nothing impressive about it. Just photographing actors is not cinematography. There are many incidents where the mood of the scene gets distrubued because of unnecessary angles and shaking of the camera.

Overall: The makers tried to replicate the success of Piku but failed. It is a one time watch for Mr. Bachchan’s fan and Ayushman….Ayushman Bhav...kuchh alag karne ke chakkar me, kuchh jyada hi alag kar rahe ho...
